Gemstones are Beautiful to Behold and a Great 21st Century Investment
Gemstones are beautiful to behold. They have always been sought out for their visual impact and pleasurable experience.
Kings, queens, and other royalty have for centuries collected gems of every size, color, and description for their private fortune and public display.
Private citizens have worn and given gemstones to those they love or want to impress for as long as human beings have walked the planet. A beautifully cut and mounted gem is a wonderful enhancement for jewelry such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings.
Gemstones for Love
No matter what anyone might tell you, one of the gifts most appreciated by women as a token of your love is still quality jewelry combining precious metals and gems. I have talked to many women about this over the years, and have never met one woman who did not like receiving quality jewelry.
I have met ladies who didn’t like flowers. I have met ladies who don’t like chocolate. But I have never personally met a lady who doesn’t like fine jewelry. Gemstones are an essential element of the equation.
The diamond is the stone of choice for engagement rings, but there are many other choices. My choice for the engagement ring I wanted to give to my wife many years ago was a gorgeous green emerald, surrounded by tiny diamonds. I was eighteen at the time, and on a $5 per hour wage, could not afford it. So I settled on a small diamond ring, which my wife still wears today.
Since that time, I’ve bought her diamond earrings, a white sapphire ring, and several diamond necklaces. They are always a hit. I still need to get her a green emerald!
But while gemstones are beautiful to behold and lovely in jewelry, they are also a great investment.
Gemstones are a good investment
Gemstones don’t lose value over time. They are always in limited supply, so their value continues to increase. If you were to buy some gemstones today, you can be sure you will get your money back and more in the future if you decide to resell them.
The beauty of in
But another consideration when thinking of investing in gemstones is that they are a great hedge against inflation. Where you dollars can quickly lose value (buying power), gems maintain their value at least at the same rate as inflation and they often rise faster.
Buying Gemstones as an Investment
Buying gemstones as an investment requires a certain amount of homework. If you want to protect yourself from potential loss, you should be aware of a few important points.
First of all, don’t buy at retail. When investing in gemstones, you are not buying them as jewelry. Do your research to discover where you can find the best price for the gems you’re investing in.
Secondly, don’t think you need to buy the most expensive stones for your investment. It’s a fact that lower-priced gems are usually marked up a lot more than the more expensive ones when they are sold in the retail market. This means that you don’t need a great deal of money to make a decent investment. Buying the less expensive gems gives you more “room for error.”
Third, be aware that there is always a chance for a temporary drop in value
The best way to avoid such market drops, of course, is to buy the higher-priced gems, such as diamonds, that are always more rare than the less expensive ones. But again, remember that your margins are generally tighter on higher-priced stones.
Gems are beautiful and a good investment
No matter how you look at gemstones, they are something to consider. They are beautiful to look at, and they are a good investment.
